HEREMA has been the transitional Competent Authority for Offshore Safety in Oil and Gas Operations in Greece since 28 July 2016, by means of Law 4409/2016 (transposition of Directive 2013/30/EU).Moreover, HEREMA is managing on behalf of the Greek state the hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation rights and serves as the licensing and permitting authority for underground storage of gases and liquids (such as CO2, natural gas, and hydrogen).

Within this context, HEREMA is open to hiring a Legal Council to join the Offshore Safety Authority to work on overseeing compliance by operators and owners of the Greek Offshore Safety Law.

As a Legal Council, your day-to-day activities will include the following range of activities/responsibilities:

  • – Supervision of compliance with Law 4409/2016 by the Operators
  • – Providing advice and interpretation of legislation on offshore safety issues
  • – Administrative control of documents received or handled by the Competent Authority for the purposes of carrying out its duties
  • – Contracts and agreements with subcontractors of the Competent Authority when required for the needs of the Competent Authority’s work
  • – Overseeing the procurement and tendering procedures of the Competent Authority
  • – Contributing to the development and formulation of the Competent Authority’s internal procedures

We would like to hear from you if you have the following Required Qualifications and Skills/Attributes:

  • – University degree in Law
  • – Master’s degree in International and European Energy Law or Environmental Policy and Law
  • – Knowledge of the regulatory framework of offshore safety in hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation operations in Greece and the European Union (Law 4409/2016 & Directive 2013/30/EU)
  • – Experience in public sector tenders
  • – Experience in European legislation on industrial safety with emphasis on energy and environment
  • – Proven professional experience of at least 10 years
  • – Excellent and proven knowledge of English
  • – Presentation and communication skills
