The Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company (HEREMA) partook at the proceedings of the 2023 Europe Forum on Carbon Capture & Storage, organized by the Global CCS Institute.

The Company was represented by the HEREMA CEO Aristofanis Stefatos, who participated at the multi-government Policy, Legal and Regulatory Working Group which hosted government agencies from USA, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, UK, Germany and Romania, the representatives of which exchanged ideas and best practices.

The HEREMA team had the opportunity to take a closer look at Europe’s ambitious climate and CCS policies, introduced by the Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG Clima), headed by Kurt Vandenberghe.

HEREMA experts discussed with their peers from government agencies the implementation of the EU CCS directive and potential steps to enhance and accelerate CCS deployment initiatives, necessary to reach the ambitious European and national Net Zero targets.

In addition, participants elaborated on ways to ensure the competitiveness of local industries, while also generating significant job opportunities, and unpacked the CCS regulatory and permitting framework, along with financing mechanisms from a wide range of perspectives.
