HEREMA has been the transitional Competent Authority for Offshore Safety in Oil and Gas Operations in Greece since 28 July 2016, by means of Law 4409/2016 (transposition of Directive 2013/30/EU).Moreover, HEREMA is managing on behalf of the Greek state the hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation rights and serves as the licensing and permitting authority for underground storage of gases and liquids (such as CO2, natural gas, and hydrogen).

Within this context, HEREMA is open to hiring an Offshore Engineer to join the Offshore Safety Authority in order to work, among others on assessing and accepting reports on major hazards and overseeing compliance by operators and owners of the Greek Offshore Safety Law, including inspections, investigations, and enforcement actions.

As an Offshore Engineer, your day-to-day activities will include the following range of activities/responsibilities:

  • – Monitoring of the operations of offshore hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation facilities and control of their compliance with Law 4409/2016
  • – Evaluation of documents under Law 4409/2016 submitted by the Operators/Owners of offshore installations
  • – Monitoring of drilling and/or production operations carried out in offshore environment
  • – Conducting assessments and inspection reports
  • – Organisation of inspections for offshore hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation facilities and participation in them as drilling experts
  • – Examination of confidential reports on offshore safety issues submitted to the Competent Authority
  • – Investigation of incidents under Law 4409/2016
  • – Preparation of plans of the Competent Authority
  • – Representation of the Competent Authority to the European Union supervisory bodies
  • – Monitoring of certification of installations
  • – Evaluations of daily reports of offshore drilling operations
  • – Selection of external consultants for inspections where required
  • – Point of contact for on-going field inspections
  • – Keeping a record of Competent Authority – Operator / Owner interactions
  • – Contribute to the issuing of technical guidance documents by the Competent Authority
  • – Undertaking other work that may be assigned by the Regulatory Director of the Competent Authority for the purpose of carrying out its task

During your contractual execution you will get the opportunity to:

You will also be able to actively contribute, and further develop your skills by engaging with teams that:

  • – Are striving to guide and share knowledge to junior personnel and resources

We would like to hear from you if you have the following Required Qualifications and Skills/Attributes:

  • – University degree in Engineering or a related field
  • – Master’s Degree in fields such as: Petroleum engineering, Process Safety, Oil and Gas Production
  • – 15 years of work experience in the offshore oil and gas sector
  • – At least 5 years of proven offshore field experience
  • – Experience in industrial inspections
  • – Knowledge of the regulatory framework of offshore safety in the European Union desirable (Law 4409/2016, Directive 2013/30/EU)
  • – Excellent and proven knowledge of English
  • – Presentation and communication skills
